Our program encourages every child to think like an artist; observing, experimenting, creating, and reflecting, as they learn to communicate ideas visually and respond thoughtfully to the work of others. Each year level builds on core visual elements such as line, shape, colour, texture, pattern, and space. Students explore these through hands-on projects in drawing, painting, collage, printmaking, and sculpture. They learn to use art-specific vocabulary to describe and analyse the ways artists communicate ideas and emotions.
Visual Arts at North Cottesloe encourages students to take creative risks and to value both the process and the finished artwork. As they move through the years, students gain confidence in using visual language to express their identity, experiences, and ideas. Our classrooms and displays proudly showcase student artwork, celebrating imagination, effort, and growth. Through these experiences, students learn that art is not only a skill, it’s a way of seeing and understanding the world.
We connect with the local community on wider art and sustainability projects, as a means to positively contribute to society. By fostering creativity and curiosity through art, we nurture students who Achieve, Inspire, and Excel, artists and thinkers who notice beauty, value diversity, and use creativity to make a positive impact on their community and the world.
